I understand the incentives that drive this. In some sense, it seems like the logical response to the new reality. (After inventing cars, we started taking a lot more low-value trips.) But I don’t think this is socially useful, and I tend to think everyone will soon agree that this is embarrassing. But… I’m not sure. Maybe it is socially useful? And I find myself feeling vaguely jealous of the people who are wired this way, who instead of feeling blinkered, see opportunity and plunder.
